BEWARE - OF - ADLIBS
It was about this time five years ago when political strategist David Axelrod sat down and wrote a memo to then-Sen. Barack Obama, who was seriously considering whether to run for president after months and months of saying he would not.
“History is replete with potential candidates for presidency who waited too long rather than examples of people who ran too soon. . . . You will never be hotter than you are right now. . . . In short, there are many reasons to believe that if you are ever to run for presidency this is the time.” “But there are manifold more reasons to believe that if you ran this prematurely you’d only end up making a total ass of yourself in office”. -ME
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie spoke at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library on Tuesday. With no G.O.P. presidential candidate taking a strong frontrunner status, members of the Republican Party are once again urging him to run. Unfortunately Dr. Levy beat him out at the Iron Man trials in

Christie’s blunt style has captured the imaginations of many Republicans, as Obama’s hope-and-change message stirred Democrats then. He is a fresh face in a party that is in transition and looking for something more than it sees on the horizon. He is being encouraged to run by ordinary citizens, wealthy fundraisers and party leaders who see an opportunity for victory in 2012 and don’t want to let it slip away. After all he’s heard the song on TV as much as anybody lately and he believes you should “Snatch and grab it”.
Axelrod’s memo contained another piece of advice relevant to Christie’s decision-making, which is that the incumbent president defines the coming election and that, if there is unrest in the country, voters will be looking not for a replica but for a replacement. Whatever negative qualities they see in the incumbent, they will be looking for the opposite. Still there are others who believe the best cure for unrest in the country is to pass out free Xeanax to every citizen.
Axelrod was speaking of the qualities of leadership of then-President George W. Bush that had left the country deeply unhappy. He described them as stubbornness, hyperpartisanship and a tendency to place ideology over reason. Axelrod argued that Obama, better than any other potential Democratic candidate in 2008, fit the moment. “You are uniquely suited for these times,” he wrote.
Five years later, after persistent economic problems and a breakdown in government in
Republican challengers to Obama will make the argument that both different policies and a different kind of leadership are needed to get the country moving, which was part of Christie’s goal when he spoke at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library on Tuesday night. He outlined that case against the president in ways designed to draw obvious comparisons with his own hard-charging style.
Christie belittled Obama as a “bystander in the Oval Office” and a chief executive who lacks the courage to lead. “We hope,” he added, “that he will shake off the paralysis that has made it impossible for him to take on the really big things that are obvious to all Americans and to a watching and anxious world community.”
He sought to portray Obama as a passive actor and himself as Mr. Take Charge. There is a simple rule for effective governance, he said: “When there is a problem, you fix it. That is the job you have been sent to do, and you cannot wait for someone else to do it for you.”
Now we are in concrete. You know something? They should have some device to make it look like the letters have been chizzeled into the concrete. I know they do have font special effects but they aren’t that good. Well, are you all set for the rapture tonight? Too bad. I borrowed Dr. Thom Horton’s tuxedo just for the occasion. Kids are hard wired for sugar. Logically that sends a message “Don’t fight biology”. Of course the media told us last week that animals and humans yawn to cool the brain. That actually makes sense. Judy was saying that fat is good because fat caused you to feel “Satiety” to use a Homer Simpson vocabulary word. Whereas carbohydrates have stuff in them to make you crave eating more. We all know where Judy stands on the dieting issue. This is Wednesday September 28, 2011 after dinner. We had a chicken drumstick, a half of a baked potato with no butter or sour cream, and good corn, with vanilla pudding for desert. Loretta says “Don’t worry they promised us butter and sour cream”. Yeah, that’s like a congressman’s phone receptionist telling an irate caller “I’ll have the congressman look right into that” and you know nothing will happen.
This afternoon before one Sarah announced the Wall Mart trip. Once again she yanked the sign up list last evening when I check and my name wasn’t on it. But I informed Sarah this morning I wanted to go and she said I’d be first stand-by. It turns out that the second load wasn’t filled to capacity anyhow. I waited out by the benches and Bruce was out there but I didn’t see him board the van but he must have. Glen was around but he didn’t go. I went back up to check on the soap. It was just Bo and Hope going on about long lasting marriages. The only thing long lasting about that show these days is the boredom. I still can’t figure out who that brunette that E J was with at the party. If it’s who I think it is she came back from the grave. Anyhow I came out later and a smaller group of us left including Pete and Fred and Marryanne Woods. She dropped us right at the door. I went for my coffee and was surprised the prices were not perceptably better than at the liquor store. The creamers were downright pricy and I didn’t get any. I was strapped for cash. I bought two 105 oz cans of Master Chef in the blue can. So I’m wondering what was the size of the Folgiers can I bought last week - - was it only a half a pound? “Muy pequenia!” I checked out and discovered that the filters were meant for a larger pot. I tried to exchange them for a smaller size but apparently their philosophy is “one size fits all”, like condoms. Actually I’m less concerned about size than the “BMI” index. As in “How much is bone?” Anyhow I shower her my receipt and asked for my package back. I went outside and sat on the lone granny bench and had a smoke. Bruce and Marryanne and I conversed but Bruce was generally carrying the conversation. I like the fung chue there much better than at Stater Brothers. Sarah said she’d be by at 2:30 in forth minutes, but she didn’t arrive till a few minutes past three. Stragglers from the first load were there and the van was filled to capacity on the way home. As usual we took that usual tract “short-cut”.
Nora had finally gotten to the room. She cleared out two and a half pounds of narcotics stash. Just kidding. She had changed the linens. I’m not going to post today. There is stuff I want to say about Howard. Let me "do" Howard right now in the edit window. Last Saturday I had confirmed for me a version of his death that was the version I did not want to hear. It's the one about it being an "inside job" by his own "Organization" in Chicago gunning him down because he cheated on his fiancee in Madison, whom members of the Organization had an loyalty to. This report referred to Howard as being "in an occupation dealing in merchandise". Well, drugs are no doubt involved. But there seem to be other services provided also such as fixing parking tickets or expunging arrest records with city government connections. They are also connected with a famous family name in Chicago - also a major league field - but we won't drag that in because it's irrelivent. We are talking about Howard's death late in the evening of December 30, 1975. Thus this infadelity story seems to be the majority oppinion after hearing it from enough sources. My own private theory that it was just a simple case of rival gang warfare. To me this has always made more sense and infadelity had nothing to do with it. Pete Richards' first wife believes this theory as do I but it seems that now we're the only ones. On the date of Vernon Presley's death in late June of 1979 for about the next year I sporadicly talked to Pete's first wife by phone just to chit chat. But it made Pete Richards increasingly nervous and he told me to knock it off - so I did. In a related matter, Howard Richards and Roger Shepherd are biological first cousins. This was confirmed to me. I hadn't been sure. Roger's father and Howard's biological mother are brother and sister, last name Shepherd. Howard always regarded as the Shepherd family as having more status than his own biological family, and that last name I don't know. OK now we have that story behind us - - . And from late last week there is still a “bit” with Dennis Wilson and a “bit” with Stewart I still haven’t done. This Michael Jackson trial is the hottest thing since the Phil Specter trial, and before that it was O J.
I’m going to test out the coffee in a few minutes. Last night it was Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune and then N C I S. I retired before nine. I lot of thoughts were percolating in my mind last night. Governor Christie is into Bruce Springsteen, of course. Of course now we need to get all the other Arkturian rock groups to endorse him including
Last night I slept well. In fact I didn’t want to get up at 6:25. I went out to the bakery for a large coffee but then didn’t finish it before breakfast. We had Cheerios for breakfast and scrambled eggs and toast that was actually toasted, and butter and jelly. The coffee for both breakfast and lunch was skimpy. I had Stephanie Miller on. Nora passed out room by in the morning. Thom Hartman had not that much interesting. He just made it sound like he had a good show for us. For lunch we had tomato soup and then crab salad, always a treat. We had an orange for desert. I guess it was Randy Rhodes after that. And now we’re caught up. Now I’ll start the coffee.
This morning I was doing reviewing of the previous posting and noted it came in double so you saw the same thing if you moved down a posting. The new brand of coffee gets a thumbs up. I gave Bill a little but he doesn’t have any money. Loretta doesn’t have any money either but if she can make it up here I’ll let her have a cup.
